The Vineyard

The vineyard can be found at 214 Point Leo Road, Red Hill South, Victoria, an area known for its deep red clay/loam soils and rapidly developing a reputation for premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The vineyard itself is a wide sloping amphitheatre surrounded by trees giving the vines protection from strong winds and concentrating the sunlight hours into ripening luscious fruit.

A few points....

Point Leo Road Vineyard is only 16.5 acres when fully planted. The earliest plantings were of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. More recently 2.5 acres of Pinot Gris and 1.5 acres of Lagrein were planted and in the spring of 2008 areas of Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer were added.

Our firm belief is that the making of quality fine wine begins in the vineyard. The trellising system used to support the vines is Scott Henry. Fruit is cropped at 3-4 tonnes per acre. Great care is taken to maintain the vines using best viticultural practice. Canopy management is crucial to the production of premium quality, ripe fruit. Shoot- thinning, leaf plucking and trimming control foliage and allow maximum light and air through the foliage to keep fruit and vines disease free. The amount of fruit that each vine carries is controlled by hand-pruning.

Soil nutrition is monitored regularly as vine health is paramount.

Ecological and environment consideration are equally important and a well regulated, low impact spray program has been in effect since the commencement of vineyard operations.

All fruit is hand-picked at its peak and transported immediately to the winery where the journey from grape to bottle begins.
